"Train" Of Thought

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Today I met with Wrangler to see the men's prototype for my design on a model for the first time. The outcome was a little different than I had expected. So we've made some changes and I think the choices made will only benefit the look in the end. I've learned that as a designer, sometimes the design that we put on paper does not translate on a sample 100%. Also, I've learned that you cannot design what you want for one gender and expect it to look right, with a similar design, on another. So let this lesson be learned and I shall be a better designer from it! I'm so glad to have the opportunity to work with menswear because I am clueless when it comes to fit for a male's design. Once again, thank you to all of my supporters and don't worry, I won't disappoint you! You will have a pair of jeans that you will be happy with!

For those of you who haven't been following me and are a bit lost, you can read this previous post for a better understanding.

Featuring: AMANDA VAUGHN-REDMON

Say "hello" to a familiar face again! This is Amanda and you may have seen her a couple of post back. Amanda's style is very versatile. You can find her wearing harem pants one day and see her in a vintage dress the next. That's what makes it so fun being around her. You can never expect what she will wear next. Amanda has taught me so much and I am so thankful to have her as my mentor and friend. She has inspired me in so many ways and she may not even realize it! From her style, to her creativity and to being a confident woman who strives hard in whatever she does. You not only want to meet this special lady but probably would LOVE to stop by her store as well! So don't forget to stop by FORMATION if you're in town!

Raining Pink

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

These photos were taken last week. I came home from work to the rain decided to take advantage of it while it lasted and tried photographing my outfit. I was worried it wouldn't work but it turned out okay (although a bit grainy). This was actually the most fun style diary shoot yet. At first, I was totally bummed out over the rain but I've learned that instead of moping around, do something about it! Work around the problem and something good may come out of it!

Also, I will be taking a trip to NYC for about a week starting next week. Are there any places you all would recommend me visiting? Any place that would inspire a creative mind or just a neat place you think is worth visiting. Please leave a comment below and let me know! I will try to visit as many places as I can of the places you recommend and will be sure to take photos to share! Thank you all and I hope you enjoy the rest of the week!

Dye-tastic!

I found this neat tie-dye cropped top and decided to wear it upside down here. Although the gathered elastic is suppose to stay on the waist, I prefer the brown tints cascading towards the blue rather than the other way around. Just something simple.

Let Loose!

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

My mother's first reaction when she saw these pants were, "why are you buying pants that I used to wear?" and laughed. Of course trends come and go but I currently love loose slacks like these. They're very comfortable and you definitely do not feel restricted in them. I also like the fact that I can wear it high-waisted because in all honesty, I kind of love lots of things high-waisted when it's done right.

P.S.
And for those of you who are already a fan of H&M, here's a reason to love it more!

Beat The Heat

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
Vintage blouse, Vera Wang shoes, Forever21 skirt, Urban Outfitters purse

My favorite thing about this blouse is the detailing. The front and sleeves are filled with pin tucks and ruffle edges, which adds a very girly/feminine touch. I'm really into silky and sheer blouses this summer. It keeps me cool and I love the feel of the fabrics. Most people don't think about wearing long sleeves during the summer and just resort to short sleeves and tank tops. With the right fabrication, these long sleeve blouses will actually keep you cooler than you think. If you think about it, it acts as a shield and shade you from the sun. Imagine driving with your air conditioning on but your arms are still extremely hot because the heat from the sun is hitting you. So that's just a thought to consider!

Featuring: FORMATION (Amanda Vaughn-Redmon)

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
My big announcement that I've mentioned in my previous post is about my summer internship. This summer, it is my privilege to be interning with the notable designer, Amanda Vaughn-Redmon, the previous designer for Urban Outfitter's Urban Renewal line, and the current owner of FORMATION.

FORMATION is a free-standing boutique and showroom for the eponymously named clothing line for women, owned by Amanda Vaughn-Redmon. The boutique was recently launched in April 2011 and is located on North Main Street, at the center of downtown Kernersville, North Carolina.

FORMATION features handmade clothing in the "FORMATION" brand and carefully reconstructed and repurposed apparel in the "FORMATION remade" line. The store also carries vintage wear nitpicked with only the most creative buyers in mind.

Amanda Vaughn-Redmon is an apparel and jewelry designer who have graduated from the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) with a degree in fashion design. After her graduation from SCAD, Vaughn-Redmon was the first from the school to secure a position working for Urban Outfitters, a clothing store chain stretching across the United States and beyond, operating more than 140 locations.

While relocating to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and working at Urban Outfitters for six years (2005-2011), Amanda Vaughn-Redmon gained her title as the first designer for their Urban Renewal line (Urban Outfitters’ recycled fashion project which includes handcrafted pieces made from vintage, dead stock and surplus materials). She worked as a designer for knits and woven’s. Her job at Urban Renewal is to turn vintage fabrics into eco-chic garments.

Amanda Vaughn-Redmon describes her style of designing as unorthodox therefore, she is not conformed to a certain aesthetic or way of designing. Her favorite way to design is through experimentation with asymmetry shapes and through the respondent of her fabrication and drape. These traits are very evident when viewing her designs. Many of her collection consist of clever color selection and design manipulations. For her accessories, Vaughn-Redmon utilizes any materials that she has laying around her shop or at home to incorporate to her designs.
